Three Charged With Breaking Into, Burglarizing St. Charles Park District Buildings
(CBS) -- Three teenagers have been charged with burglarizing St. Charles Park District buildings last weekend, causing more than $30,000 in damage.
The teens broke into the Otter Cove Water Park and the concession building at James O'Breen Park around 3 a.m. last Saturday, police said. After breaking in, the three caused extensive damage, including breaking windows, computers, refrigerators, destroying the lightning detection system and carving into the walls, police said.
Surveillance video captured the break-in and police arrested the teenagers on Monday.
Nicholas Zamecnik,18, Kyle Wandle,19, and William Donlevy, 18, were each charged with burglary and criminal damage to government property.
The break-in is disturbing for neighbors who live near the park district buildings.
"It's a little bit more than teenagers just being teenagers," said Cheli Haywood. "That's a lot of damage."
"It might be time for me to get some surveillance too," said Ian Fiedler.
An initial report estimates the damage at over $32,000.
