Thousands Run In 2015 Chicago Marathon
(CBS) -- The 38th Chicago Marathon is in the books as thousands of runners made their way through the 26.2 mile course through the city on Sunday.
45,000 runners from more than 100 countries and all 50 states took part in this year's race.
Two runners from Kenya, Dickson Chumba and Florence Kiplagat, won the men's and women's races. To look up the results of the runners, visit results.chicagomarathon.com/2015/.
The temperatures for the race were little above normal for this time of year, and there were 2,100 medical volunteers along the race route. According to Chicago Fire spokesman Larry Langford, one runner in his 60s suffered cardiac arrest during the race and was brought back with an electronic defibrilator and transported to a hospital. George Chiampas, the medical director for the Chicago Marathon, says 45 runners were transported this year, compared to 35 last year.
Early finishers tell WBBM that the wind was more of an issue than the warmer temperatures.
Organizers estimate 1.7 million people came out to watch the marathon.
