Thousands Of Motorcycles Ride Down Western For Annual Toys For Tots Parade
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Once again, Western Avenue from the South Side of Chicago to the north was packed with motorcycles today for the 37th annual Toys for Tots Parade.
WBBM's Nancy Harty reports the cold didn't seem to bother the thousands of riders who came out for what organizers say is the largest motorcycle parade in the world.
Many wore Santa hats or full suits as they rode up Western Avenue from the Dan Ryan Woods to DeVry University where they dropped of the toys. A couple dozen spectators cheered them on in the final stretch.
Governor-Elect Bruce Rauner rode in the parade, something he says he first did back in the 1980's.
"We're obviously here to celebrate Christmas as a time of giving back and it's a wonderful time to support the Toys for Tots," Rauner said.
The toys collected are given to the Marine Corp Reserve to distribute them to needy children.
