Thousands Attend 47th Annual Mexican Independence Day Parade
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The streets in Chicago's Little Village were awash in color this afternoon as the neighborhood celebrated the 47th Annual 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade.
WBBM's Nancy Harty reports on how some say it's a family tradition, part of efforts to keep their culture and ties to Mexico alive.
"It's a lot of colors, a lot of celebration and happy people," one parade-goer said. She was one of thousands who attended the parade.
The fun started at noon along 26th Street from Albany to Kostner avenues. The parade featured floats, mariachi bands and dancing in the streets. "The culture, the people, everything it was just a big party. That's why I love it," another attendee said.
