The South Side Shows Support For The Cubs

CHICAGO (CBS) – When the Cubs take the field Tuesday night for Game 6, it will not just be north-siders cheering them on.

Believe it or not, there is some south-side support too.

South-side Cubs fans are prouder than ever this year to show their Cubbie pride. CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports.

Bridgeport is home to the Chicago White Sox and many of their fans, but sprinkled in, here and there, are pockets of Cubbie blue.

From "W" flags to life-size Anthony Rizzo's, Cubs fans are making their presence and pride known.

Some businesses are even showing support for the north-siders.

Sox fan, Guy Elsberg, thinks it is great that the South Side is showing support for the Cubs. Elsberg is a die-hard Sox fan, but he is pulling for the Cubs in the World Series.

"If they do it, great," Elsberg said. "It is great for the city."

For life-long South Side Cubs fans, like Richard Gracia, who spray-painted the World Series logo on his Wrigley Field sod-covered lawn, the show of support from south-siders this year is a nice change.

"You see some of them wearing Cubs gear now," Gracia said. "It's like, yeah all right, it is okay to come on. Jump on board the bandwagon. There is room you know."

Gracia went to Games 3 and 5 at Wrigley. He has already made plans to drive Wednesday to Cleveland for Game 7. That means, he is predicting the Cubs will win Game 6 on Tuesday.
