'The Bean' At Millennium Park, Cancer Survivors' Garden At Maggie Daley Park Vandalized; 7 People In Custody

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police took seven people into custody overnight, after vandals defaced "The Bean" at Millennium Park and the Cancer Survivors' Garden at Maggie Daley Park.

Police responded to a trespassing call in Millennium Park just after midnight on Tuesday morning. Responding officers found the words "35th Crew" and other graffiti had been spray-painted on famed artist Anish Kapoor's landmark "Cloud Gate," more commonly known as "The Bean."

Mayor Lori Lightfoot expressed her anger regarding this incident.

"I was pretty pissed off, look some things should be sacred," she said.

"Last night's vandalism to Chicago's iconic 'Cloud Gate' is reprehensible," Department of Cultural Affairs spokeswoman May May stated in an email.

The taggers also sprayed similar graffiti on the memorial walls in the the Cancer Survivors' Garden at Maggie Daley Park, as well as at least one park bench.

"That's unfortunate that somebody has to go and do that to something that's so iconic in the city," Millennium Park visitor Gary Potter said.

Police arrested seven people at the scene. Charges were pending Tuesday morning.
