Teen Stabbed Near CTA Belmont Red-Brown-Purple Line Stop

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A teen was stabbed late Wednesday afternoon near the busy CTA Red-Brown-Purple Line Belmont stop.

Police surrounded the Chicago Transit Authority 'L' stop, over Belmont Avenue just east of Sheffield Avenue in Lakeview, at the height of the evening rush.

Around 5:45 p.m., two groups of boys or young men got into a quarrel that turned into a physical fight, police said.

One of them took out a knife and stabbed a 15-year-old boy in the thigh, police said.

The victim was rushed Lurie Children's Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

Crime scene tape was strung in front of the secondary station entrance and exit on the north side of Belmont Avenue and a sculpture alongside it. Crime scene tape was also seen inside the entryway, though people were still exiting through a high-wheel turnstile nearby.

The stabbing did not affect CTA service, the agency said.
