Teen Charged With Raping Women In Hyde Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged with sexually assaulting two women in the Hyde Park neighborhood in the last week.

The teen, whose name was not released by police because he is a juvenile, faces two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and a misdemeanor count of obstructing identification, according to Chicago Police.

The first attack happened on Halloween in the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive, police said.

A 58-year-old woman was running near the lake about 11:10 a.m. when a male ran up behind her, pulled her to the ground "in a semi-secluded area" and assaulted her, police said.

The woman was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment.

The second attack happened about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 5800 block of South Lake Shore Drive, police said.

The teen sexually assaulted a 55-year-old woman and stole her cell phone, police said. She was also taken to U of C Medical Center.

Officers responding to the second attack arrested the teen "a short distance away," according to police, and he was identified as the suspect in both assaults.

The boy was expected to appear in bond court Thursday.
