Taste Of Chicago Crowds Smaller Than Typical Opening Day

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Day One of Taste of Chicago - and the crowds are showing up - just not as many as a typical opening day.

For 19 years, Nicole Neuhaus has worked the Eli's Cheesecake booth at Taste.

"I feel like there's a little bit less people here this year."

But it's only the first day. A cool day and kind of drizzly.

So how to bring in the people who did come out?

"When I say 'nacho,' you say 'cheese'..."

That's how they attract attention at Oak Street Beach Cafe - which, by the way, is not at Oak Street Beach, but at Midway Airport.

"It's hard to get people to come to the booth once they keep walking and once they get their food."

Ryan Mallory is a member of the family that owns the cafe.

"And also it livens up the booth, the morale, for the employees."

Taste of Chicago runs through Sunday.
