Task Force Recommends Creation Of Single Board To Oversee All Chicagoland Area Transit Systems
(CBS) -- The Governor's transportation task force is calling for a single board to oversee the whole Chicagoland area transit system, reports WBBM's John Cody.
Governor Pat Quinn appointed the 15 member panel after last year's Metra scandals where Executive Director Alex Clifford said he'd been pressured for politically influenced contracts and hires.
The head of the task force's ethics committee, former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, said the whole plan needs implementation, not just his piece.
"Because if we have an ethical system that delivers transit to places that don't need it in a poorly run operation with poor governance and a lack of financing, that will be a failure," said Fitzgerald.
The ethics panel recommends an unpaid transit board so people won't just use it as a paid stepping stone to higher positions. The ideas now face legislative scrutiny in Springfield.
