Man arrested following SWAT incident at Chicago motel

Man arrested after standoff at Chicago motel

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man is now in custody following a swat situation at a motel on the city's Far North Side.

The manager at the Rodeway Inn, formerly the Rio Motel at Lincoln and Jersey avenues, said a 49-year-old man who was staying there became violent.

Police say he then barricaded himself in a room.

"It got a little hectic. The SWAT team got him in from coming down the window and kind of maneuvered him down the stairs," said motel guest Christopher Bunch, "and he didn't think those guys were down there, and he tried shoving his way through about 10 of them – and they stopped him and put him in the ambulance."

The situation concluded without incident and the man was taken to Swedish Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

No injuries were reported.

All streets near the motel have since reopened.
