SUV Hits Car, Then Crashes Into House In Oak Lawn

OAK LAWN, Ill. (STMW) -- Two women suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when a sport utility vehicle hit a car before driving into a house in southwest suburban Oak Lawn, police said.

Police Sgt. Joe Garrett said the accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. when the southbound SUV ran a stop sign at 87th Street and New England Avenue and hit a car that was eastbound on 87th Street.

The SUV then smashed into a house on the southwest corner of 87th and New England, Garrett said.

He said the drivers, both women, were hurt, but a baby in the SUV and a woman in the house were not injured. Garrett said he did not know how fast the SUV was going or why the driver went through the stop sign.

Bruno Danko, of Burbank, lives less than a block from the accident scene and heard the crash from inside his home.

"It sounded like metal on metal, just a big bang," Danko said.

Emilio Nunez, 13, lives across the street from the house that was hit. He said he saw a woman exit the SUV and apologize to police before being taken into custody.

Nunez said firefighters has to extricate the driver of the car.
