Suspect In Oak Park Kidnapping Turns Himself In

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend while she was house-sitting in west suburban Oak Park has turned himself in to police.

Sherman Henderson, 31, was taken into custody at the Oak Park police station Monday night, after showing up with his attorney, according to a statement from Oak Park police.

Henderson was suspected of abducting his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend while she was house-sitting at a home in the 600 block of Forest Avenue shortly before midnight Sunday night.

The woman was located several hours later at a suburban hospital, and was treated for minor injuries.

A witness told police he saw a man forcing a woman into a silver 2006 Dodge Magnum around 11:50 p.m., and then fleeing south on Forest Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the back door of the home had been forced open.

River Forest police spotted the Dodge Magnum heading west on Chicago Avenue, but the driver eluded a traffic stop. Police later found the vehicle.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning. Police said they expected to conduct additional interviews with Henderson and the victim.
