Suspect In Milwaukee Double Murder Commits Suicide In Lyons

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A two-state manhunt ended Thursday when a suspect accused of killing two people in Milwaukee fatally shot himself in the southwest suburb of Lyons.

CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.

Members of the Chicago Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service and state police gathered outside Room 113 at Presidential Suites Motel in Lyons. Inside, the body of Milwaukee fugitive Ricky Chiles was discovered.

Chiles had been charged with a bizarre double murder in Milwaukee that included one of his own family members.

Last Sunday, the family was gathered for a birthday party when Chiles' 2-year-old nephew, Damani Terry, ran into the street and was hit by car. Damani's 15-year-old brother, Rasheed, ran after him.

The driver, Archie Brown, stopped to check on the 2-year-old, but it was too late. Police say an angry Chiles also ran to the street with a gun.

"Then I just heard people just screaming. Then I just heard gunshots and my daughter ran into the house with her baby in her arms," Chiles' mother, Lena Tidwell, said.

Chiles reportedly fired several shots. One hit and killed Brown. Another hit and killed his nephew, Rasheed. Chiles fled, and Milwaukee police say a tip lead them to the Chicago area motel.

Police say Chiles shot himself as officers closed in.
