Man arrested after police chase for abducting 3-year-old daughter

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A kidnapping in west suburban Cicero led to a police chase along two Chicago area expressways overnight.

Cicero police said, around 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the 5000 block of 29th Street after a man abducted his 3-year-old daughter.

The victim's mother told police her ex-boyfriend and father of her two children had forced his way into the home, kidnapped her 3-year-old daughter, and fled the scene. The woman had an active order of protection against her ex-boyfriend. Her 5-year-old daughter was not harmed.

Will County Sheriff's deputies later spotted the father's vehicle in Joliet, and began pursuing the vehicle, with the help of Joliet Police and Illinois State Police.

Illinois State Police said, around 12:40 a.m., troopers spotted the father's vehicle in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 near 167th Street.

Police continued chasing the vehicle onto the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway, before the father exited at 31st Street.

The vehicle eventually stopped near 31st and Poplar in the Bridgeport neighborhood, where the kidnapping suspect was arrested. Police said the 3-year-old girl was found safe, and has been reunited with her mother.

Cicero police said the father is in the custody of Illinois State Police, and an investigation is ongoing. No charges have yet been announced.
