Suspect caught in carjacking of man, 80, in Chicago's southwest suburbs

NEW LENOX, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in New Lenox said they have captured the person who stole 80-year-old man's car, in New Lenox, and pushed him out while driving away.

Surveillance video shows the carjacking, which happened at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday at Silver Cross Hospital. Andrew Horwath was being assisted into the front seat of his minivan, when a man got in the driver's door and started driving off with the minivan, New Lenox police said.

Horwath was partially seated in the front passenger seat as the man started driving off. The man pushed Horwath out of the minivan, which went on to hit him, police said.

Right away, police turned to social media asking for help from the public in their search for the suspect, whom they identified as Kyle Sears, 35.

The minivan was later recovered in Joliet, police said. On Friday, Sears was found in Verona, Illinois, in Grundy County, and was arrested on a warrant issued the day before.

As for Horwath, he was seriously injured, but is expected to survive. His family said he is awake and communicating with them.
