Snow showers return for Sunday evening in Chicago

Light snow expected Sunday night in Chicago area

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Your First Alert weather team is watching a low-pressure system which is still tracking towards central Illinois and Indiana, bringing heavy snow far south of Chicago.

The Chicago area will get grazed by the system, but impacts will be limited north of the city. South of the city, heavier totals will stack up. In total, about 1 to 4 inches of snow will be possible area-wide.

Clouds will be on the increase Saturday night and through the daylight hours on Sunday. Then by the evening hours, snow will set up across Chicagoland.

CBS

The system snow will be heavier for areas south of Interstate 80, with 2 to 4" of snow being possible. Areas near downtown and to the north will get lighter accumulations, with 1 to 2" possible.

CBS

After the system snow wraps up early Monday, stronger winds will create lake-effect snow bursts Monday afternoon and evening, which could give us another few inches of accumulations depending on where the bands set-up. Sunday night and throughout Monday expect low visibility and slick area roads.

Temperatures are staying cold for this upcoming week as well. For Saturday night, lows will drop in the teens with wind chills being in the single digits. Temperatures will be even colder by mid-week, with highs in the lower 20s and lows in the teens. Make sure to stay warm.
