Suburban Girl, 12, Headed To White House With Winning Soup Recipe
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 12-year-old Palatine girl has a lunch date at the White House with Michelle Obama.
Tess Boghossian is heading to the nation's capital with a winning soup recipe.
"It's called Lincoln's Inaugural Soup. I put some vegetables into it, chicken and quinoa," she said.
Boghossian is one of 54 winners of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, part of the first lady's campaign against childhood obesity. She says that she loves history and cooking, so that served as her inspiration.
"I found a recipe for a soup he [Abraham Lincoln] had at his inauguration and I just sort of tied that in," she said.
The soon-to-be seventh grader at Winston Campus Elementary School says she entered the contest for fun but didn't expect to be chosen.
The White House event called the "Kids State Dinner" will be held July 18.
