Student Falls Out Window At Morgan Park Academy

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A middle school student broke both legs after falling out a window Friday morning at a private school in the Morgan Park neighborhood.

The student fell out a bathroom window around 9 a.m. at Morgan Park Academy, at the school's campus at 2153 W. 111th St., according to a school spokesman. The boy was conscious when he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the boy broke both legs in the fall. The school insisted the boy fell from the window, but a source said the 13-year-old jumped from a second- or third-floor window at the school.

A school spokesman said the boy was with his family at the hospital. School officials spoke to other middle school students about what happened and were making counselors available to students if needed. Parents were also being told they can take their children home early on Friday.
