Car wanted in robbery crashes on Chicago's South Side; 3 boys apprehended

3 boys arrested after armed robbery, rollover crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three boys were taken into custody Sunday evening after a car wanted in a connection with a robbery rolled over near 63rd and State streets.

Chicago Police were called to the first block of East 74th Street in the Park Manor neighborhood, where a 50-year-old man told them he had been robbed by three males. One of the robbers had a handgun and demanded the victim's personal belongings, police said.

The victim complied, and the offenders fled in a dark sport-utility vehicle, police said.

At 8:25 p.m., Illinois State Police spotted the getaway car near 56th and State streets in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The car sped off before state police tried to pull it over. It eventually lost control under a railroad overpass at 63rd and State streets, state police said.

The three teens in the vehicle – 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy – were taken into custody, and a gun was recovered.

Two of the boys who were apprehended were also taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, while the oldest was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Their conditions were not known Sunday night.
