Steamy heat continues in Chicago, relief for some tomorrow

Afternoon storm chance on Wednesday

CHICAGO (CBS) — Another hot day with highs in the mid-90s, but some relief is headed toward the Chicago area with a late-day front.

Widely scattered showers and storms will focus on the frontal boundary. Areas northwest of Chicago have the best chance of storms.

 There's a slight chance of a storm turning strong late today, producing gusty winds and lightning.

Overnight, the front will slide to the south, ushering in a cooler airmass off of Lake Michigan. Cooler tonight with upper 60s and low 70s for lows and areas of patchy fog.

Thursday will be partly cloudy and cooler, with highs ranging from the 70s near the lake to the low 90s in the southwestern suburbs.

 A few showers and storms will be possible.

Temperatures will build again to 90 on Friday and into the mid-90s on Saturday. A shower or storm is possible late Saturday, and there is a chance for lingering showers into Sunday. 

 REST OF TODAY: Late-day storm chance, especially in northwest Chicago. High 95.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with areas of patchy fog. Cooler. Low 70.

THURSDAY: Cooler, especially near the lake. A chance for showers and storms. High 86, 70s lakeside.
