Woman Killed, 12-Year-Old And Infant In Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman is dead and three other people have been left hospitalized after an early-morning hit-and-run in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood on Sunday.
Chicago Police said two men in a stolen car caused the crash near Pershing Road and State Street around 1:15 a.m.
As CBS 2's Meredith Barack reported, police said the two men were traveling south on State Street in the stolen red Chevrolet Malibu when they collided with a black sedan headed east on Pershing Road.
A mess of debris was left scattered on street corner in the aftermath of the crash – broken glass and car parts among it.
Hours earlier, Chicago Police combed through the scene searching for evidence.
Police said the men in the stolen Chevy Malibu took off and ran from the scene after the crash.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old woman in the other car died at the scene. A 12-year-old boy, who was thrown from the car, and an infant were both taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition. A 41-year-old man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in an unknown condition.
CBS 2 went back to the scene later Sunday and found a camera right near the hit and run - attached to the Dawson Technical Institute of Kennedy King College, 3901 S. State St. It was unclear late Sunday whether or not that camera captured the crash, or the men accused of leaving the scene.
