South Side Park To Be Renamed To Honor Hadiya Pendleton
(CBS) -- A South Side park where a teenage girl died will be renamed in her honor.
15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton became the tragic face of Chicago's epidemic of violence when she was killed in gang crossfire in 2013.
After more than a year in the works, the Chicago Park District approved the name change Wednesday.
Later this fall, Buckthorn Park will become Hadiya Pendleton Park. The new park will feature a sculpture of a stack of books representing her passion for reading.
