Man Shot In The Head In South Shore Apartment

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was critically wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood.

Police said several people were gathered in an apartment near 70^th and Merrill around 2:30 a.m., when someone shot a 20-year-old man in the head.

The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said one person was in custody for a weapons violation, but it was unclear if he is the shooter.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
