Five Shot While Leaving Party Bus In South Shore

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five people were shot as they were getting off a party bus early Thursday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

Around 2:10 a.m., the bus driver stopped in the 2200 block of East 70th Place to drop off the 32 passengers on the bus, when someone opened fire on the crowd.

Police said four men and one woman were wounded.

"As soon as the shots was fired, I went back on the bus, and then when I turned around, a young lady was under the bus. She said she was shot. They was still shooting. I picked her up, put her on the bus, and pulled off," said the bus driver, who asked to be identified only as John.

The bus driver said he heard as many as 30 shots. He took two victims to Jackson Park Hospital – a 22-year-old man who was shot in the hand, and a 22-year-old woman who was shot in the foot.

A 29-year-old man who was shot in the leg was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A 22-year-old man who was shot in the leg and chest was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. All of their conditions were stabilized.

Police said a 30-year-old man was shot in the right arm, but it was not immediately clear where he was taken or what his condition was.

Police said they are looking for one shooter.

Area South detectives were investigating.
