South Loop Family Repeatedly Subjected To Racist Graffiti

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It has happened again: a Chicago family subjected to hateful, racist graffiti at their own home.

In this Original Report, CBS 2's Mike Parker shows us how it's affecting the family that's growing more frustrated with each incident.

The latest outrage was last Friday at midday as Brandy Washington walked to her car in the condo building's parking garage.

The N-word was painted on the wall and beneath it an exclamation point.

Brandy's husband David does undercover police work. He said his anger level is "up there."

The first incident was on Mother's Day, on the hallway wall outside the couple's apartment. Then their 16-year-old daughter's bike was vandalized, the family car was keyed in the garage, then again in the hallway, another message of hate just outside the door.

"Just hope that one day these people will be caught and brought to justice," Brandy said.

David says their daughter is now having trouble sleeping and is plagued by nightmares.

"I try to explain it as best I can, that there are bad people still in the world," he said. "We don't live in a utopian society. I wish we did, but bad people do bad things."

The condo building management is apparently taking steps to beef up security. Chicago police are still searching for the perpetrators.
