Two Shot At South Holland Gas Station
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two teenagers were shot overnight at a gas station in south suburban South Holland.
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. at the Gas Depot at Sibley Avenue and State Street.
Matina Lee said her 19-year-old daughter was wrapping up a night with friends, and getting ready to head home, when they stopped at the gas station, and someone began shooting at them.
"There was no confrontation, or anything. They was coming from bowling, and the show, and eating, and having fun, and they stopped at the gas station to get some gas," she said. "You have no right shooting no one. You have no right having these guns. These guns have no right being in these children's hands. These guns have no right being on the street."
A store clerk said he was inside the gas station's store at the time of the shooting, and he ducked for cover when he heard the gunshots.
Surveillance video from the gas station shows another light-colored sedan pull up next to the victims' car. Moments later, shots are fired, and smoke is visible coming from the passenger side door.
The victim's car was shot up, with shattered windows and bullet holes on the passenger's side. Police found multiple shell casings on the ground.
Police said a young man and young women went to the hospital.
Lee said her daughter is expected to survive.
"My daughter's going to be wonderful. She's just got to have surgery on her wrist, because the bullet actually broke some bones," she said.
The other victim also was expected to survive.
Police spent hours overnight processing the crime scene. Investigators said they are trying to determine if the victims were the intended targets.
