Pro Bowl To Be Held In Arizona This Coming Season

(CBS) — This coming season's Pro Bowl will be held in Glendale, Ariz., at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the site of Super Bowl XLIX, a league source confirmed Wednesday.

The NFL confirmed the news in an announcement this afternoon. The game will be played the weekend before the Super Bowl.

The decision to move the Pro Bowl from Hawaii — its traditional location — was made in part to make it more accessible to fans and create more revenue for the league.

The NFL made a similar move in 2010, when it played the game in Miami, the same site as that year's Super Bowl. That was the first time since 1980 the Pro Bowl wasn't played in Hawaii, and it was the first time the game was played the week before the Super Bowl.

The Pro Bowl returned to Hawaii in 2011 but continued to be played the week before the Super Bowl, without players from the two teams playing in the Super Bowl.
