Someone You Should Know: Volunteer Barber Craig Foltos

(CBS) -- He's a barber by trade who uses his craft to help people during times of great stress.

CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says Craig Foltos is someone you should know.

Twenty-four years ago, after establishing his barber business, the Batavia resident decided to give back with an annual 24-hour fundraiser called "Chop around the Clock" for the Ronald McDonald House. He's raised $280,000 for the cause.

But beyond that, he decided to come in once a month to offer haircuts at the Hyde Park facility at 5444 S. Drexel, where children are treated at the University of Chicago hospitals nearby.

Park Ridge resident Helen Rancich has spent most of the new year there with her son, who had a transplant.

"When they mentioned that there's a volunteer here that cuts hair, I said, how can I sign up?" she says.

Foltos said there's a simple reason he likes to help out.

"We're always trying to make our parents proud of us," he says. "I know my parents would be proud. I want to be here until I can't be here anymore."
