Someone You Should Know: Opera Singer, 12
(CBS) -- She could have a big future as a singer, but right now she's a 12-year-old girl from Skokie with an amazing voice.
CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says Laura Bretan is someone you should know.
She just graduated from the sixth grade at Skokie's Lincoln Junior High School. Now, it's time to enjoy her summer vacation with 8-year-old sister Estella.
At age 12, Laura is the spirit of everything you'd expect a girl her age to be -- with one exception.
She is becoming known as the child singer with an adult voice. She has competed at talent competitions – and won.
She began singing when she was four.
"They told me about a girl who wanted to sing," says vocal coach Cristian Dumitrana, who calls her student a prodigy. "For me, it's an honor to have a student like Laura."
Laura insists she's a normal kid.
