BANDS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WILL AFFECT AREAS ALONG AND WEST
OF A LINE FROM GARY TO PONTIAC...INCLUDING THE CHICAGO METRO AREA...INTO
EARLY EVENING. WHILE SNOW WILL BE WINDING DOWN IN THE ROCKFORD
AREA TOWARDS 5 PM...IT WILL BE EXPANDING ACROSS THE CHICAGO METRO
THROUGH THE RUSH HOUR. VISIBILITY WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 1 TO 2
MILE RANGE BUT MAY BRIEFLY FALL TO A HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES IN
MORE INTENSE SNOW. AIR TEMPERATURES ARE JUST ABOVE FREEZING THIS
AFTERNOON WHERE SNOW IS FALLING BUT WILL COOL TO AROUND OR JUST
BELOW FREEZING AS SNOW WINDS DOWN. WARMER GROUND TEMPERATURES WILL
ALLOW FOR SOME MELTING UNTIL THE HEAVIEST SNOW OCCURS AT WHICH
POINT ACCUMULATION WILL BE MORE LIKELY ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED
SURFACES. SLUSHY ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE ON ROADWAYS AS
WELL...WITH BRIEF SNOW COVER POSSIBLE UNDER THE HEAVIEST SNOW
BANDS. SNOW INTENSITY WILL TAPER OFF EARLY THIS EVENING WITH TOTAL
ACCUMULATIONS AROUND 1 INCH WITH ISOLATED 2 INCH AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
