Smash-And-Grab Thieves Hit Gold Coast Clothing Store
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Smash-and-grab burglars hit a high-end apparel shop on the Gold Coast early Friday, the second such heist at the same store in seven months.
Around 5 a.m., thieves used a crowbar to pry their way inside Moncler, at 33 E. Oak St., and then smashed glass display cases to get to the valuables inside.
Police and officials at the store have declined to say how much the stolen merchandise was worth.
The door to the shop was clearly damaged in several places, and the lock was destroyed in the break-in.
Last September, thieves rammed a vehicle through the front of the store, before getting away with thousands of dollars of expensive clothing.
"It's not surprising, given how expensive the merchandise is on this street, and sometimes people are desperate, and they need to find a way to make ends meet, but that's not what any of us want to see. We want people to be able to be self-sufficient, and take care of themselves, and we all want to feel safe wherever we go," said Erica Changnga, who works on the Gold Coast.
No one was in custody Friday morning, and police were not saying if the burglary was caught on tape.
