Sketch Of Suspect In Shop Owner's Slaying Released

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of fatally shooting a Gold Coast shop owner during an apparent robbery in March.

Herbert Goode, owner of Silver Cloud Gallery at 20 W. Ohio St., was shot in the chest in what appeared to be a robbery, authorities said at the time.

Goode, 66, was shot about 2 p.m. March 1 in the 2300 block of West 57th Street and pronounced dead a short time later at Mount Sinai Hospital, officials said.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and ruled his death a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

He was standing near the driver-side door of his vehicle when the shooter came up and began to struggle with him, Area Central detectives said in a community alert issued Monday.

The suspect shot Goode during the struggle, then fled, the alert said.

Authorities describe the suspect as a 6-foot black man between 20 and 30 with medium complexion, average build and low haircut, the alert said. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck that may have the word "PAM" with a ribbon underneath.

Police consider the shooter armed and dangerous, and ask anyone who sees him to call 911.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
