Six Horses Rescued From North Carolina Recovering At Hooved Animal Humane Society In Woodstock
(CBS) -- Six horses are recovering in McHenry County after they were rescued from an unlicensed animal shelter in North Carolina, reports WBBM's Rob Hart.
Two mares, a filly, a two-week old colt, a yearling and a gelding were among the 40 horses rescued in January from The Haven, a facility in North Carolina that had been operating without a license for a decade.
Hundreds of cats and dogs were also rescued from The Haven.
The animals were malnourished and suffering from lingering injuries. The ASPCA sent six of the animals to the Hooved Animal Humane Society in Woodstock, where executive director Tracy McGonigle says they are on the mend.
"That's why they are here, that's goal to get everybody back to health and adopted out to great homes," McGonigle said.
The horses are still underweight, which is why they are on a feeding program and they should be available for adoption in a couple of months.
