Heat, humidity increase in Chicago along with chances for scattered showers, thunderstorms

Scattered showers move into Chicago area Monday morning

CHICAGO (CBS) — A storm complex in Iowa will head toward Chicago Monday morning. A warm and more humid air mass continues to build across the area. Scattered showers may be around for the morning hours.

Gusty thunderstorms are possible into the heat of the afternoon, depending on how the atmosphere recovers from the morning. That recovery will affect how unstable the air will be for afternoon storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has the Chicago area at a Level 1 for severe weather. Damaging winds and torrential downpours would be the greatest threats with any stronger storms.

It's a hot and humid week ahead with scattered storm chances. Storm timing and coverage remain uncertain. Any storms that form during this hot week have the potential to bring high winds and flooding rains. There will also be many dry hours each day.
