Shooting Suspects Arrested After Police Chase

CHICAGO (STMW) -- After allegedly shooting a man in the South Lawndale neighborhood Tuesday night, two suspects led Chicago police on a car chase that ended in their arrests in west suburban Lyons.

Officers on patrol in the Southwest Side neighborhood heard shots fired about 9:55 p.m. and saw a van speed away from the 3000 block of South Tripp Avenue, where a 21-year-old man was shot in his back and hand, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man later took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is in "stable" condition, Greer added.

Police pursued the van into Lyons, where two males--whose ages were not immediately known--got out of the vehicle and ran before officers arrested them, police said.

A police source said the shooting might have been gang-related.

Charges are pending against the two people in custody as of early Wednesday.
