Man shot on Illinois expressway
CHICAGO (CBS) — A man was wounded in a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway overnight, and apparently drove to a nearby McDonald's to ask for help.
Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Illinois State Police responded to a shooting in the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 31st Street.
The Chicago Fire Department confirmed a man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition after reporting he had been shot on the expressway.
A car with a bullet hole was located outside of a McDonald's at 25th Street and King Drive, about 1.5 miles away from where the shooting happened. It appears the driver pulled into the parking lot for assistance.
After the shooting, Illinois State Police closed the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan between 31st and 45th streets to investigate. Officers could be seen recovering a shell casing near the 33rd STreet bridge.
The expressway has since reopened.
Police have not said if anyone was in custody in connection to the shooting.
