Inbound Dan Ryan Expressway Reopens After Early Morning Shooting

Chicago (CBS) -- The inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway were closed for more than two hours Monday morning, after a shooting on the South Side.

Illinois State Police and Chicago Fire Department officials confirmed they responded to call of a person shot inside a car around 4:15 a.m. on the inbound Dan Ryan in the express lanes near Marquette Road.

Upon arrival, crews found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his body. He was transported to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.

A 54-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man who also were in the vehicle were injured by flying glass, and went to University of Chicago in good to fair condition.

Police shut down all inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan from 87th to Marquette at 4:45 a.m. to investigate. All express lanes were closed between Marquette and 59th as well.

All northbound lanes reopened shortly before 7 a.m.

The shooting was the 10th of the year on the Dan Ryan Expressway. According to Illinois State Police, there have been at least 38 shootings on Chicago area expressways in 2018.
