Another Police Memorial Statue Vandalized In Streeterville

(STMW) --A police memorial horse statue on Michigan Avenue was damaged Sunday in Streeterville, less than two weeks after a man was charged with criminal damage to property for vandalizing a similar statue nearby.

Officers responding to a vandalism complaint about 3:30 a.m. at 744 N. Michigan Ave. found the horse statue damaged, police said.

The horse could be seen on its side with its tail broken off.

There are signs "clearly posted" in the area prohibiting trespassing and climbing, police said.

The statue is one of 29 life-size fiberglass statues of Chicago Police horses honoring fallen officers and displayed on Michigan Avenue. The horses will be auctioned off following the exhibit to benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

Earlier this month, a 25-year-old man was charged with vandalizing a similar police memorial statue on Michigan Avenue.

Darius Moss, of the 2300 block of West Jackson, faces three felony counts of criminal damage to property in connection with the Oct. 11 incident, police said. He allegedly climbed on one of the memorial horse statues in the 500 block of North Michigan Avenue and broke it.

The man told police he just wanted to get on the horse to take a picture, according to a police report.

A third horse statue was vandalized a week ago in the 200 block of West Merchandise Mart Plaza, police said. The horse was found vandalized and broken into pieces about 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 12.
