Second Man Charged With Armed Robbery On Orange Line

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A second man charged with the armed robbery of five passengers on a CTA Orange Line train as it approached the South Loop in July was ordered held without bond Thursday.

Robert Weaver, 47, of the 5000 block of South May Street faces three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm in connection with the July 16 robbery, according to Chicago Police.

About 4:15 p.m. on July 16, two men, one armed with a handgun, robbed multiple passengers on the train as it traveled between the Halsted and Roosevelt stations, police said.

According to a police source, one of the suspects pulled a blue steel revolver and the other said, "Give me your s***." The second suspect began collecting items from riders and put them in a black backpack while the other pointed the gun at victims.

The armed man struck one woman in the face with his gun, according to the source.

Authorities learned about the robbery after one of the riders who was robbed alerted CTA personnel at the Roosevelt station, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

The transit agency held the train at the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station until police arrived, she said.

A judge ordered Weaver held without bond on Thursday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. His next court date wasn't immediately known.

Michael A. Taylor, 20, was previously arrested in Rockford and charged with four felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, authorities said. He was ordered held on a $300,000 bond on July 27.
