School bus crashes into house in Western Springs

School bus crashes into Western Springs home

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A school bus leaves the road and crashes into a house in Western Springs Thursday morning.

The crash happened on Hampton Avenue south of Ogden Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Chopper 2 was over the scene.

CBS 2's Asal Rezaei reports the driver was the only one on board and didn't make a big impact to the home but did leave tire marks and slight damage to the side of the house.

Security camera footage from a next-door neighbor shows the bus jumping the curb, driving through the grass, and coming to a stop once he hits the house. It wasn't driving that fast which kept it from doing any structural damage to the home.

Police say the driver was trying to avoid hitting an animal when he veered off the road.

The owner of the home says he was in the basement when he heard a loud bang. He didn't want to talk on camera but told us he's not too concerned about the small amount of damage.

There were no kids on board at the time of the crash.

We're told the bus driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution but is expected to be okay.
