Ed Peterson, the owner of Falcon Bus Company, believes an electrical shortage under the hood of the bus caused the fire.
He said there were "a few kids on the bus," but all were evacuated immediately.
No smoke was inside the bus while children were on board.
A new bus will continue the route while the one that was on fire will be towed.
Firefighters were pouring water on the charred bus as of 7 a.m. at Ashland and 14th Street.
