School Bus Brings Child Home -- More Than 3 Hours Late
(CBS) -- He was supposed to be home at around 4 p.m., but hours later there was no sign of a 4-year-old Chicago Public Schools student.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov waited with the family.
There was panic and anger Thursday for Jose Aguilar and his wife.
At 7:45 p.m., he was pacing, on the phone, waiting for his son's school bus to finally bring him home, more than three hours after the preschooler should have been dropped off.
The boy, Kevin, attends school at Peter Reinberg Elementary School, less than 2 miles from his home.
"He's only 4. He must be hungry. He must be crying for his parents," Jose Aguilar said.
Finally, just before 8 p.m., the bus finally pulled up with Kevin.
The driver declined comment to Kozlov.
Kevin indicated he was happy to be home.
His father says there have been problems with the bus service previously.
On Friday, questions persisted about what happened to the child, who could not himself articulate where he was.
The boy's parents took him to school.
Officials said an investigation continued and disciplinary action was expected.
Chicago Public Schools says it has a "zero tolerance" safety policy.
"The driver and vendor violated several safety protocols ... and we are moving forward with significant disciplinary actions, including a ban of the driver from CPS transportation routes," CPS said.
