Saladino Lifts White Sox To 6-5 Win Over Mariners
CHICAGO (AP) — Rookie Tyler Saladino drove in the winning run with a single in the 11th inning and the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners, 6-5, on Sunday.
Alexei Ramirez singled and Tyler Flower walked to start the rally before Ramirez advanced to third on Carlos Sanchez's flyout and scored on Saladino's hit off David Rollins (0-1).
David Robertson (6-3) struck out three in two innings for the victory as the teams split the four-game series.
The White Sox tied the game in the ninth on shortstop Brad Miller's throwing error to first on pinch hitter Sanchez's grounder. Trayce Thompson scored after he singled off Carson Smith and stole second.
Kyle Seager homered for the third straight game and drove in the go-ahead run on a single in the eighth for the Mariners. Austin Jackson also had three hits, including a two-run home run and a triple. Jackson hit a two-out triple and scored on Seager's single off Zach Duke in the eighth to give the Mariners the lead.
The White Sox put two on in the bottom of the eighth, but pinch hitter Adam LaRoche flew out to end the inning. Chicago went 12-16 in August.
Melky Cabrera had four hits and tied the game for the White Sox with a leadoff home run, his ninth, off Mayckol Guaipe in the seventh.
White Sox pitchers struck out 19 to tie a franchise record.
Seager hit a two-run drive in the first for his fourth home run in 12 plate appearances and 21st overall.
The White Sox pulled to within one in the bottom of the first when Adam Eaton walked, advanced on first baseman Logan Morrison's fielding error and scored on Morrison's second error when he didn't cover first base on a Jose Abreu grounder.
Jackson hit his eighth home run, a two-run shot, for a three-run Mariners lead in the second. John Hicks scored after he singled in his first major league at-bat.
Saladino had an RBI double and Eaton followed with an RBI groundout to pull the White Sox to within one in the fourth.
Edgar Olmos allowed three runs and five hits in five innings in his first career start.
Jose Quintana allowed four runs and nine hits in 4 1-3 innings in his shortest outing since April 19 when he threw four innings against Detroit.

Mariners: RHP Guaipe was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and LHP Mike Montgomery was optioned to Tacoma before Sunday's game. Guaipe went 0-3 with a 7.50 ERA in eight previous games with Seattle. He was 0-4 with five saves and a 2.87 ERA at Tacoma. Montgomery was 4-6 with a 4.60 ERA in 16 starts for the Mariners. Manager Lloyd McClendon said he expects the rookie to work on his command. ... SS Ketel Marte is day-to-day after injuring his right hamstring Saturday. He will test the leg Monday, McClendon said. ... LF Franklin Gutierrez returned to the lineup Sunday after sitting out Saturday for tightness in his Achilles tendon.
