Saint Anthony Hospital, Riot Fest Reach Agreement

(CBS) -- Saint Anthony Hospital and Riot Fest have reached an agreement to allow the festival to proceed in Douglas Park this weekend, according to a joint statement from the hospital and the fest.

The hospital had filed a lawsuit in an attempt to block the festival amid concerns over noise and safety and say Riot Fest wasn't keeping its promises. Riot Fest countered that the hospital had asked them for $154,000 to drop the suit.

"Unfortunately, passions ran high on both sides and motivations were questioned. Both sides regret their aggressive statements," the joint statement said. "Saint Anthony Hospital acknowledges that Riot Fest was not lying and Riot Fest acknowledges that Saint Anthony Hospital was not motivated by financial gain."

Both the hospital and festival credit the work of Alderman George Cardenas with helping to broker a deal.

The agreement calls for parking on 19th Street in front of Saint Anthony Hospital and pedestrian barriers on the west side of California Avenue. Traffic will be closed if congestion makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to access the hospital and sound within the hospital will be monitored.

This is the first time the festival is scheduled to take place in Douglas Park. It was previously held in Humboldt Park.
