Rutherford Cancels TV Ad Buys Across State

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford has sent notice to television media outlets that he is pulling his campaign ads.

The statewide cancellation is effective immediately.

However, campaign officials will decide to resume advertising later in the month, sources said.

Rutherford, the state's treasurer, is locked in a battle with front-runner Bruce Rauner.

Rauner, a millionaire businessman, has been running television ads for months.

State senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard are also running for the nomination.

The candidates are scheduled to debate tonight in Springfield.

Last week, Rutherford was accused of sexually harassing a former state worker. Rutherford strongly denies and charge and believes it is politically motivated.
