Rush Hour Shooting Near Dan Ryan Garfield Exit Ramp

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police were on the scene of a rush hour shooting near the Dan Ryan at the Garfield exit ramp Friday afternoon.

Illinois State Police were at the scene helping Chicago Police after reported gunfire in the area, police say.

There were reports of  loud noises around 4:09 p.m. near 43rd and Wentworth after police say the suspects fired . When police got to the area, they saw a vehicle fleeing southbound on the Dan Ryan, leading to a three-vehicle wreck on the southbound ramp at the 5500 block of South Wells.

Police say five offenders then took off running. During a foot chase with police one of the offenders started firing.

Charlin Blair was in one of those cars that was hit and heard the commotion.

"I was like, 'What's going on?' I was going to try to get out of my car. As I was opening my door, two boys went past my car, and then I instantly closed my door because I wasn't sure what was going on," she said. "And when they went past my car the police jumped out. And he just started shooting at them, and they were just splattered everywhere just about 10 shots right in front of me. I don't know. It's crazy."

One man leaving a nearby Wendy's drive-thru was shot in the ear but is expected to be ok.

No one is in custody. Two weapons, including a rifle, were recovered from inside the vehicle.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
