Ronald McDonald Statue Decapitated Outside Broadcast Museum

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Vandals decapitated a statue of Ronald McDonald outside the Museum of Broadcast Communications overnight in the River North neighborhood.

Workers arriving for work Tuesday morning saw the statue of the beloved McDonald's icon had been decapitated when they got to the museum, according to museum founder Bruce DuMont.

Neighbors had rescued the statue's head after the statue was vandalized.

The statue of the smiling McDonald's mascot had been sitting on a bench outside the museum's entrance at 360 N. State St.

DuMont said the statue has been removed from the premises to be repaired.

A police report has been filed, but DuMont said the museum does not have cameras outside, so surveillance footage of the vandalism is not available.
