Rizzo, Sale Named All-Stars In Final Vote

(CBS) Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and White Sox left-hander Chris Sale have earned All-Star berths in their respective leagues after winning the final vote from fans.

Facing four other candidates apiece, both Rizzo and Sale led the voting entering Thursday and then were atop the polls with the help of Twitter campaigns that used #VoteRizzo and #TargetSale. For six hours Thursday, tweets with those hashtags counted as official votes. Some fans went to the extremes, voting hundreds of times.

Rizzo will join Cub shortstop Starlin Castro on the National League squad, while Sale joins White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez and first baseman Jose Abreu on the American League team.

Rizzo is hitting .277 with 20 homers, 49 RBIs and an .895 OPS this season. Sale is 8-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

The All-Star Game is Tuesday in Minneapolis.
