Rideshare Driver Abducted, Carjacked At Gunpoint In Glen Ellyn
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A rideshare driver was abducted and carjacked at gunpoint by two men Saturday night in west suburban Glen Ellyn.
About 9 p.m., officers were called to the Walmart at 3S100 Route 53 where a 36-year-old man was located, Glen Ellyn police said.
The man told the officers that he drives for rideshare companies and was standing outside of his car at an apartment complex at 325 Ramblewood Dr. when he was approached by two men, one of them holding a handgun. Police did not specify which rideshare companies the man drives for.
The two men forced the victim to drive them to several ATMs, where they attempted to use his ATM card to withdraw funds, police said. The men then told the victim to drive them to Walmart. When they arrived in the parking lot, he ran away from the car.
The two men drove off in the victim's gray 2009 Nissan Sentra, police said. The victim was not injured and the car was later recovered in Glen Ellyn.
The first suspect is described as a black man in his early to mid-twenties, around 5-foot-5 and 110 pounds, police said. The second suspect is described as a black man also in his early to mid-twenties, about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds with short hair and a mustache.
